Over the course of an hour, you will be encouraged to draw your attention into your body, enabling you to understand how it feels to be more centred, grounded and present. case study
“I am having an operation for my varicose vein but the post-surgical recommendation to walk at least one mile per day immediately afterwards - to avoid blood clots - is causing me concern.”
— Male Client, age 53
This case study demonstrates the effectiveness of a multi-disciplinary approach to an individual facing surgery and who is understandably anxious.
Under examination, Vata Agni was prominent. There was low to moderate Ama, Vata Dosha dominance, sub-doshas of Prana, Apana and Vyana, Vata and potentially Ranjaka Pitta if there were secondary complications such as ulcers. Dhatus affected: 1st Plasma and 2nd Blood indicated by varicose veins. The 6th Nerve dhatu was indicated by anxiety.
The approach was to start with a gentle, pain relieving, seated practice, complemented with walking using the BodyWalk technique the following day. Medicinal herbs and tinctures of Ashwagandha, Siberian Ginseng, Reishi and Rhodiola were suggested, as well as herbal teas to support healing with added fresh ginger root, sage, peppermint and nettle. Supplements of vitamin C, Zinc and Arnica were recommended, and care was taken regarding contraindications with all his prescribed medications. A Vata-specific diet going forward was suggested as being ideal. Self-massage with Mahanarayan oil was recommended, with the addition of vitamin E and calendula oil once the skin of the wound had healed. Encouragement to start an anxiety-reducing personal practice was given.

TESTIMONIALS
ANton
“Carol was incredible in developing a yoga routine that works round my lifestyle. Building up the routine through a couple of sessions, she walked me through mastering each technique at a comfortable pace. I now have a evening routine that helps relieve back pain from sitting at a desk all day, build core and arm strength and even sleep better.
Highly recommend!”

“Carol’s Yoga Therapy is helping me to start the healing process following my vascular surgery. Sitting me in a chair, Carol guided me through some gentle movements to ease my pain and help me relax. It has helped with sleeping and my recovery from the operation. This is the second time I’ve had this type of therapy and would recommend it!”

“My yoga therapy and Ayurveda sessions with Carol have been beyond helpful for me. Her patient and kind demeanour fostered an environment where I felt safe and comfortable to explore therapeutic ideas that I hadn't previously considered.
Carol helped me to find new ways to support my mental, physical, and spiritual health. I especially appreciated the diverse range of techniques she imparted onto me in only a few sessions; for example, she worked with me to find ways to ground and centre myself through walking, which is something I enjoy on a day to day basis. With Carol's guidance, I feel I have significantly improved my yoga practice, particularly with protecting and strengthening my (possibly hypermobile) joints. Additionally, I've historically been rubbish at maintaining a meditation practice, however, I am proud to say that I have now cultivated a daily meditation routine using many of the techniques that we worked on together. I don't think I would have managed this without her support.
This was my first time receiving any kind of yoga therapy, and it was a great experience for me. I would definitely recommend Energy Works to anyone seeking holistic therapy.”
